Cellist - Music Educator
A Bit About Me
Hi! I’m Grace Miller, a fourth-year student at Western Michigan University pursuing degrees in Cello Performance and Music Education. Music has been a core part of my life for as long as I can remember, and I’m passionate about sharing it with others through both teaching and performing. I have studied with Alicia Eppinga and Bruce Uchimura and have been honored with scholarships, including the Edwin E. Meader Endowed Scholarship and the Robert Madura String Scholarship.
As a performer, I’m an avid chamber musician and can regularly be seen performing in the Fontana Chamber Music Series of Kalamazoo. I am also an active gigging musician, playing for churches, weddings, and community events throughout West Michigan. I’ve served as assistant principal cellist with the Grand Rapids Youth Symphony and co-principal cellist with the Western Michigan University Symphony Orchestra. I’ve also participated in renowned programs such as the Aria International Summer Academy and the Ascent International Cello Festival. In 2025, I was a finalist in WMU’s Concerto Competition and placed third in the 2022 Skip Gates Concerto Competition.
Teaching is a true passion of mine. I work with private cello students of all ages, from young beginners to adults returning to the instrument, and love creating fun, personalized, and meaningful learning experiences. I’m especially interested in string pedagogy and helping students grow in both technique and musical confidence. Beyond private lessons, I serve as Lead Cello Instructor for Orchestra Rouh, teach at Marshall Music, and work as a substitute instructor for Kalamazoo Kids in Tune. These community-based programs have shaped my approach to creating inclusive, welcoming environments where every student feels supported.

As a counselor, I was responsible for supporting the musical development and emotional well-being of high school orchestra students throughout the week-long overnight camp. My role included overseeing a cabin of campers, teaching an introductory music theory class, coaching a chamber group, assisting conductors and faculty, providing individual practice help, and facilitating team-building and recreational activities.
As a private cello instructor, I work with students of all ages and experience levels, from beginners to advanced musicians. My teaching focuses on building strong technical foundations and musicianship. I tailor each lesson to the individual needs and goals of my students, creating a supportive and engaging learning environment. Whether preparing for auditions, school orchestra, or playing for personal enjoyment, I aim to make each lesson meaningful, motivating, and enjoyable.
I currently serve as the lead cello instructor for Orchestra Rouh, a string program that supports refugee and immigrant youth in the Kalamazoo area. In this role, I provide individual instruction and collaborate with fellow teaching artists to create a culturally responsive and supportive learning environment. My teaching focuses on building foundational techniques and a love of music while honoring the diverse backgrounds of each student. Additionally, I work as a substitute cello instructor for Kalamazoo Kids In Tune, an after-school orchestra program.
At Marshall Music, I teach private cello lessons to students of varying ages and skill levels. I strive to create a positive and personalized learning experience that supports individual growth, whether students are just starting out or advancing in their musical journey.
